The type and quantity of solids in the drilling fluid determine the density, viscosity, static shear stress, filter cake quality, filtration and other quality characteristics of the drilling fluid. The solid phase has a great influence on drilling speed, shear force, rotation, and borehole stability.

 

 

A large circulation volume requires too much space and a huge sedimentation tank, which is unprofitable or unaffordable in most cases. The best solution is to use mechanical solids control equipment.
 

Compared with sedimentation, mechanical cleaning equipment such as vibrating screens, sand separators, desilters and centrifuges operate through acceleration or centrifugal force to achieve a higher level of separation. Drilling mud cleaning equipment can be composed of one or more modules. Each device has its own particle size range, and the best results are in these ranges:

-Vibrating screen-150-74 microns;

-Sand separator-110-44 microns;

-Sludge separator-110-25 microns;

-Centrifuge-120-2 microns.

The basic requirements of the cleaning system:

-Treatment of the entire circulation volume (except for centrifuges);

-Coordinate the installation sequence according to the size of the separated particles;

-Correct installation and fine-tuning to improve the efficiency of the next stage;

-Optimize the separation process, that is, handle a quarter to half of the throughput.
